The Tories are refusing to halt the sale of the former Bishop's College site off Estcourt Road despite plans for major house building over the next twenty years. Information provided to Jeremy Hilton indicates that there will be a need for a new comprehensive school needed in the north of Gloucester in a few years' time. Jeremy Hilton said: "Flogging off the Bishop's College site at this time is short sighted. We will need a new school in a few years' time. "This site should be land banked for this purpose. If a new school is to be built it is better that it is in walking distance for local children."
Local Lib Dem campaigner Linda Castle has vowed to continue working hard all year round for residents. Linda, who narrowly lost out to become Longlevens' new councillor, is continuing to press the Conservative-run city and county councils over the issues that matter to local people. The Lib Dems will continue to campaign for a new comprehensive school to serve the north of Gloucester. We still want to stop the sale of the former Bishops College site and Paygrove Lane playing field by the county council. Linda said: "I am pleased the Conservatives have pledged to repair Innsworth Lane before April next year. "This is victory for local residents who are angry at the under- investment in roads an pavements in Longlevens. Just one road has been fixed this year so far. More needs to be done."
