MORE THAN THREE TONNES OF RUBBISH MOVED FROM NORTHERN BY-PASS

The equivalent of the weight of nearly two cars in rubbish has been removed from the A40 northern by-pass.
It took city council crews two days to clear more than three tonnes of the rubbish from the side of the A40 Northern bypass in Gloucester.
The clean-up followed complaints from residents about the amount of litter lining the roads leading into the city.
The first clean up targeted a stretch of road from the A38 roundabout at Longford to the junction with the A417 at Over.
A further one is planned for later this month, to clear rubbish thrown from cars along the rest of the A40 as it passes Gloucester.
In a previous rubbish collection, a stretch of the A38 through Quedgeley saw almost a tonne of litter cleaned up.
The clean ups were organised by the city council following concerns that the rubbish was creating a negative impression for people coming into the city.
