Conservation officer recommends refusal of a new doctor’s surgery

17 Aug 2019

The city council's conservation officer is recommending refusal of a new doctor's surgery on county council land next to Barrack Square.

The site of former Quayside House.

Rebecca Trimnell said: "I welcome proposals for a new surgery, which would serve 17,000 patients, but at this time I agree with the conservation officer's recommendation for refusal.

"Unfortunately, the design and setting is at present inadequate.

"Gloucestershire County Council and the NHS must do better.

"They must redesign the surgery so that it compliments its important riverside setting. The site is also next door to an important heritage asset of the former Victorian prison."
